Signposts (Mid Sussex) Limited

The Thumbs Up Campaign aims to make it easier for people with learning disabilities to use:

• Shops

• Council Services

• Leisure centres

• Banks

• Public Transport

The project asks people who provide these services to sign up to the Thumbs Up Pledge.

The pledge is a list of 10 things that people with learning disabilities have said help them to use services.

In return for signing up to the 10 point pledge shops and services get a training DVD to show all their staff. We ask for a donation of £20 from profit making companies.

This helps their staff to give people with learning disabilities the help they need.

The shop or service then puts a Thumbs Up sticker in their window.

This means that people with learning disabilities know where they can get good customer service. More people with learning disabilities will use these services and more people will feel part of their community.

The Thumbs Up Campaign helps businesses get more customers and meet the requirements of the Equalities Act.

The History of the Thumbs Up Campaign:

The Thumbs Up Scheme started in Brighton and Hove.

66 organisations have already signed up including Brighton and Hove Buses and the Council.

The Thumbs Up Campaign is promoted in West Sussex by Mid-Sussex Speak Up, a self advocacy group for people with learning disabilities.
